FV = P × ((1+r)^n − 1) / r × (1+r), where P = monthly SIP, r = monthly expected return (annual / 12 / 100), n = number of months. The (1+r) at the end accounts for the fact that each SIP installment also earns return for the period it is invested.
SIP returns displayed are absolute (point-to-point). XIRR accounts for the exact timing of each cash inflow and is the more accurate measure for SIPs — use a portfolio tracker for the XIRR figure. The difference is small for long horizons.
Most equity funds charge 1% exit load if redeemed within 1 year of investment. Our SIP calculator does not deduct exit load — actual returns after exit load will be lower for early redemptions.
Gains on equity fund redemption: STCG 20% (held ≤12 months), LTCG 12.5% above ₹1.25L (held >12 months). Debt fund gains taxed at slab rate irrespective of holding (post-April 2023). TDS is not deducted on mutual fund redemption for resident individuals.
