Active choice: subscriber decides allocation — equity cap 75% (non-government) / 50% (government). Default auto-choice lifecycle fund: equity reduces as subscriber approaches age 55–60; cap of 75% until age 35, 50% until 50, 25% until 55.
80CCD(1): employee contribution up to 10% of salary (basic+DA), within overall Section 80CCE limit of ₹1.5L. 80CCD(1B): additional ₹50,000 deduction, over and above 80CCE limit. 80CCD(2): employer contribution up to 10% of salary (basic+DA), not counted in 80CCE.
An individual can claim ₹1.5L under 80CCE (which includes 80CCD(1)) plus ₹50,000 additional under 80CCD(1B), giving total NPS deduction of ₹2L per year. 80CCD(2) employer contribution is over and above this.
Minimum 40% of corpus must be used to purchase an annuity from an IRDA-registered insurer (LIC, SBI Life, HDFC Life). Annuity income is taxable as salary / other income at slab rates. Maximum 60% lump-sum withdrawal is tax-free.
Tier-I: pension account, locked-in until 60, eligible for tax benefits. Tier-II: voluntary savings account, no tax benefits, full withdrawal flexibility — useful for short-term NPS parking.
